This may seem like a funny question, but certainly it’s a possible one. The scenario may be the case if say, you purchased a ceiling fan in another part of the world that runs on a different power source. It’s important to note that if you plug a 120 volt appliance into a 220 volt socket, or vice versa, you can damage the appliance or cause it to stop working altogether. It’s also possible that you could cause smoke to come out of the power cord, or the fan motor.
With that being said, it might be possible to downconvert from 220 volts to 120 volts with a proper transformer or inverter. This means you would have a 220 volt outlet, and a transformer that does the work, that you then plug the 120 volt ceiling fan into the transformer or inverter. It’s not possible to go the other way. So if you have a 120 volt wall outlet, and a 220 volt ceiling fan, it’s unlikely you’ll find a way to “step up” the voltage.

With any of these step up or step down concepts, the safety of the application rests solely upon you. Running the ceiling fan on any voltage that it was not manufactured to use, will likely reduce the life of the ceiling fan. While some of the above concepts may be possible, we don’t really recommend it. It’s better to simply purchase a Hunter ceiling fan in the region in which you live, so you don’t need to worry about potentially causing your fan to stop working or encounter unforseen problems as a result of one of the above applications.
